Clinical Canine Massage

What is Clinical Canine Massage?

Clinical canine massage is a natural form of pain relief that can help to resolve soft tissue or muscular injuries typically seen as limping, lameness, slowing down or stiffness.

It can also help support orthopaedic issues like arthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and luxating patella. It is a gentle hands-on therapy focusing on your dog’s muscles to reduce pain, improve movement and enhance their overall happiness and wellbeing.

Understanding what massage is and how it can help your dog

How can massage benefit my dog?

Massage can help your dog in many ways! It can reduce pain and stiffness, improve blood flow, speed up recovery from injuries, help them move more freely, reduce anxiety, and boost their overall happiness. Dogs of all ages benefit, but it's especially helpful for active dogs, senior dogs, and those with ongoing health conditions.

Is massage suitable for all dogs?

Massage is suitable for all dogs, however I do require a vet consent form to be completed from your vet this will confirm your dog is able to have massage.  If your dog is pregnant or epileptic I am unable to massage. I will also carefully assess before starting treatment to make sure the massage is right for your dog at that time.

Can massage help with my dog's arthritis?

Yes! Massage can be very helpful for dogs with arthritis. While it can't cure arthritis, regular massage can reduce pain, improve circulation to stiff joints, and help loosen tight muscles that develop when dogs change how they move to avoid pain. Many owners notice their arthritic dogs moving more freely and seeming more comfortable after massage sessions.

How can I tell if my dog needs a massage?

You might notice your dog moving differently – perhaps they're stiff when getting up, reluctant to jump or climb stairs, or not as playful as usual. Other signs include changes in posture, decreased activity, sensitivity when touched in certain areas, or behaviour changes that might suggest discomfort. If you notice any of these, your dog might benefit from massage.

My dog is nervous/anxious around strangers. Can they still benefit from massage?

Absolutely! I have experience working with nervous dogs and use gentle, patient approaches to help them feel comfortable. Sessions can be adjusted to your dog's comfort level - we might start with shorter, gentler treatments and gradually build trust over time. Many anxious dogs actually become more relaxed with regular massage.

Yes, UK law requires veterinary consent before I can treat your dog. This is a straightforward process – I'll provide you with a simple form to take to your vet. This ensures that massage is appropriate for your dog's overall health and complements any other treatments they're receiving.

Do I need my vet's permission?

Is massage suitable for senior dogs?

Senior dogs often benefit tremendously from massage. It can help manage age-related stiffness, improve circulation, maintain muscle tone, and enhance quality of life. I adapt my techniques for older dogs, taking into account their specific needs and any age-related conditions they may have.

My Service

Practical information about me, my coverage area, and pricing

What training do you have?

I am a trained Clinical Canine Massage Therapist. I successfully completed the two year Clinical Canine Massage Practioner Programme in March 2025. I was taught four disciplines of massage and the Lenton Method® of advanced myofascial release to achieve results in just 1 to 3 sessions.

Where do the treatments take place?

I will come to your home where your dog is most at ease! This means there is less stress on your dog and they can receive treatment in familiar surroundings where they feel safe and comfortable.

What time of day do you offer appointments?

I offer flexible appointment times Monday to Saturday to fit around your schedule. The best time for a massage is when your home is relatively quiet and your dog is neither too tired nor too excited – but we can work together to find a time that suits you both.

What areas do you cover?

I provide mobile canine massage throughout a 15-mile radius of KT15. If you're not sure whether I cover your area, just give me a call or send a message, I'm happy to discuss options with you.

Do you provide ongoing support between appointments?

Yes! I'm available to answer questions between appointments via email or WhatsApp and am happy to provide guidance if you notice any changes in your dog following treatment. I'm committed to supporting both you and your dog throughout the entire treatment process.

Getting started

Booking your appointment and preparing your dog for treatment

How do I book an appointment?

Booking is easy! You can email me at info@ccmwithjane.co.uk or send a WhatsApp message to 07947806124. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours and I'm always happy to answer any questions you might have before booking.

Can I book regular appointments at the same time each week/month?

Absolutely! Many of my clients find regular bookings helpful, especially for dogs who benefit from maintenance treatments. I'm happy to schedule consistent appointments at times that work for you.

Is there an additional cost for you to travel to my home?

My standard prices include travel within a 15-mile radius of KT15. For locations beyond this area, there will be an additional travel fee due to extra travel time. I'll always be clear about any extra costs when you book your appointment.

How much will the appointment cost?

Initial appointments are £40, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Follow-up and maintenance appointments are £35, lasting around 60 minutes. These prices include travel within my 15-mile radius.

How should I prepare for the appointment?

Please make sure you have had a chance to walk your dog prior to the session. The session needs to be at least an hour after your dog's meal. You will be required to stay with your dog during the session. I do need a calm, quiet area without distractions for your dog. If your dog has had their annual vaccination we need to wait two weeks before a session can take place. If you use spot on to treat ticks and fleas I will also need to wait two weeks before a massage session.

The Treatment Process

What to expect from an appointment

What happens during the initial appointment?

Your first session starts with a friendly discussion about your dog's health, lifestyle, and any concerns you might have. I'll then observe how your dog moves and assess their muscular condition before beginning their treatment.

How long will the appointment be?

Initial consultations last around 90 minutes to allow time for a detailed assessment and first treatment. Follow-up sessions are approximately 60 minutes. The actual hands-on massage time is tailored to your dog's individual needs and comfort level.

Can I stay with my dog during their massage?

Absolutely! I encourage owners to be present during sessions. Your presence can help your dog feel secure, and it gives you a chance to see what I'm doing and learn about your dog's muscle condition. Many owners find it fascinating to watch their dogs respond to the treatment.

How many appointments will my dog need?

This varies depending on your dog's condition and how they respond to treatment. Some dogs show improvement after just one session, while others with long-standing issues might benefit from a course of treatments.

What should I do after my dog's appointment?

I will advise you at the end of the session, but generally keep their activity gentle for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Your dog might drink more water than usual, which is perfectly normal - massage helps release toxins from the muscles that need to be flushed out. Some dogs might seem tired afterwards, while others may feel energised. Both responses are normal.

How soon might I notice changes after treatment?

Some dogs show improvement immediately after their first session. For others, it might take 24 to 48 hours to see changes as their body responds to the treatment. Dogs with chronic conditions may need several sessions before you notice significant improvements. I'll always explain what to look for after each session.

What results can I expect to see?

Most owners notice their dogs moving more freely, showing increased playfulness, and generally seeming more comfortable. You might see improvements in how they walk, their willingness to exercise, or their ability to climb stairs or jump. The specific benefits depend on your dog's condition, but increased comfort and happiness are the main goals.
